A Holy God

Revelation 4:8
Exodus 15:11

What makes something holy is the touch of God upon it.

We are frightened of something we cannot wrap our minds around.  With God, the ordinary is no longer ordinary.   The Earth becomes Holy at the presence of the Holy God.

Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost.

Xenophobia – fear of strangers or of the unfamiliar someone who is different from us.

God is other than anything else. There is nothing that causes more reaction than a Holy God.  Fear causes a response within us.

Fear causes a response within us.  God isn’t frightening. He is so awesomely powerful and different from us.  If we could return to letting God be Holy to us.

God’s 1st law is not to take his name in vain.  We used to live in a country where the name of God was hallowed.  We have a casual attitude that reveals a heart that doesn’t respect God.

Hebrews 12:14

Without holiness, no man can see God.

1 Peter 1:16

2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1

We are to perfect holiness.

Holiness should be the norm of our lives.  Everything about God is covered with His holiness.  Jesus called us to be Holy.

Only the pure in heart will see God. Every action should be covered with the holiness of God.  God only forgives sins, not mistakes.  It should not be our nature to sin because we are redeemed and made Holy by the touch of God.

When we talk about Holy we think of moral purity.

2 primary meanings of the word Holy.

  1.  minor – “personal righteousness and purity”
  2. purity – primary, “separate”

Holy is something totally other than something else.  There is nothing like God, which means that he is ALL different.  That is why there is a fear of Him.

Everyone has holy space and holy time. (That’s holiness in its smallest degree.)

King Uzziah was one of the top 5 kings in all of the kings.  There is more prophecy about Jesus in Isaiah than from any other prophet.

LORD – is the sacred name of God.

Lord – “Adonai” sovereign God, the name given to Jesus

We have lost the aweness and the fear and reference for the Almighty God.

We take it lightly.

The garment.  – There is none like the robe of God.

The surroundings – Seraphim. Every creature God created was made for a certain type of environment.  There is nothing wrong with having a fear of God.

The emphasis of this event.  God’s way of expressing something is saying it again, again, and again.

When Jesus preached he would say AMEN first.

Anytime you see something in the Word of God three times it is important.

Smoke-filled the temple – smoke came from the altar.  Anytime you see God you will first go through a fire.  Isaiah said, “Woe is me.”

Until you see God, He will never see you.

LORD – He is divine.  He is Holy.  To say He is Lord is to imply obedience.

He is the place all can find comfort. He is our only hope and our only help.  You must know HIM as Lord.

Revelation 4-5

The Lamb of God

the birth of the lamb, Jesus.

God is a God of order.  He will not tolerate things out of order.  The date of the birth of Christ is important.  A pattern of festivals preceded the birth of Christ.

The birth is not on what we know and celebrate as December 25.

4 Clues about the Birth of the Lamb of God

Luke 2:7-8

  1.  The shepherds do not stay in the fields with sheep but one season of the year.  During the time when lambs were being born.  Sheep only give birth one time of year.  During Nisan, the first month of the Jewish calendar, most likely March or April on our calendar.
    The sheep in Bethlehem gave birth to lambs that were sacrificial lambs.
  2. The Holy Days.  Jesus fulfilled every event on the Jewish calendar.  Exodus 12:3, 5
    Everything about the Lamb was about new beginnings.  The 10th of Nisan is the day of the Lamb.
  3. Look at the moon and the stars.  New moon.  Jesus died on the full moon in the middle of the month of Nisan.
    Stars.  Isaiah 60:1,3,6  Daniel and his writing spoke of the star the magi followed to see Jesus.  This was a sign, a supernatural sign from God.

  4. The Tabernacle.  John 1:14
    Dwelling means tabernacle.  The day the tabernacle was complete was the first day of Nisan.  When you back up it took them 9 months to build the tabernacle.  Jesus was the tabernacle.  He came to dwell among us.  Everything about Jesus is to start everything new.

The Rich, Poor Church

Revelation 3:17-19
What has changed us from being rich in God?  We are no longer rich in the things of God.

We are poor:

  • in the Word
  • in power
  • in righteousness
  • in the pulpits

A lacking of genuine:

  • conversion
  • conviction
  • preaching

Amos 8:11

We are poor in the Word and in power.  We are poor in knowing what it is to experience the convicting of the Holy Spirit.

We don’t know how to repent.  Repentance is not emotion, but it is a change of the will.  The Word of God is the only power that we need.  We base everything and all decisions on how it is going to affect us.  We should approach things with how does this affect God?

We need genuine repentance and for people to find Christ.  God will look at all you have done when you stand before Him to give an account for what we have done.

We are poor in righteousness because we are poor in knowing God.  We know ABOUT God, but we don’t know God.

In new birth, there is a new desire.  If you have genuinely been born again you will have new desires.  A desire to know Him, to love Him, to please Him, and to serve Him.

A reason we have not received a move of God is that there is a lack of power in preaching and in our pulpits.
