Revelation 2:13-14

On October 31, 1517,    a German priest, Martin Luther wrote protesting against the established Catholic church at the time.  Tomorrow, October 31 is the 502 anniversary.  This occurred in Whittenburg, Germany.  There were 95 protest points. There are 7 major differences between Protestants and Catholics.

The Doctrine of Balaam and the Nicolatians

We are called by God to be separate people.  Balaam was well-known during the time of Moses. He was world-famous. He had the talking donkey.  His story is found in Numbers 22,25 and 31.

When you get caught up in the things of the world, you won’t see or hear God trying to stop you.  We have lost our passion for God.

Halloween comes from All Saint’s Day. A day for hallowing the saints.  But we should only be hallowing God.

Revelation 1:1-8

When we talk about the book of Revelation we talk about the future.  There is a lot of talk about the future.  Martin Luther categorized the book of Revelation as a book that should not be in the Bible.

We don’t know what the future holds, but God knows what he’s doing.

4 Features of Revelation

1.  This book predicts the future.  It is a book of prophecy, amplified by Jesus Christ and the last days.  26.8% of the Bible is prophecy. Every tomorrow has two handles – faith & anxiety. You can grab hold of either handle as you face tomorrow.

Revelation gives us comfort to grab hold of the handle of faith.  We should not look at the book of Revelation with fear.  A prominent number in the book of Revelation is the number seven.  It is found 54 times in the book.  It is a number of completion.

When the verse says, “coming shortly” it means that when it starts it is too late.  The first quick thing that will happen is the coming of Jesus, remember it says He will come in the “twinkling of an eye” – a twinkling is quick

2.   The book promises a blessing.  Blessed means to “get happy.”

3.  This book portrays Jesus’ apocalypse.  Apocalypse literally means to make visible, to make known.  The Chapters 1-3 you see Jesus in the midst of the church.  In Chapters 4-5 we see Jesus in Heaven as the Lion and the Lamb.  In Chapters 6-18 Jesus is the judge.  In Chapter 19, Jesus is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.  In Chapter 20, Jesus is the Bridegroom.  And finally, in Chapters 21-22 Jesus is the light of the Universe.

Out of 404 verses, 278 give reference to an Old Testament setting.
